Syria, Peace and the Pope’s Request

Yesterday, my family and I went to a tablet forum held at St. Sebastian Church.  The speaker was Martha Hennessy, the granddaughter of Dorothy Day.

For those of you who do not know who she is, here is a quite snapshot of Dorothy Day:

Dorothy Day was born on November 8th, 1897 in Brooklyn, New York.  As a young child, she was an avid reader.  This passion of literature would bear fruit to the meaning of life and experience of human suffering.  In her young adulthood life, Day was influenced by the ideologies of communism and joined many protests, organizations, unions and publications.  It was her personal life that she received a rude awakening.  She had an abortion, a decision she would later regret.  Her second child was born out of wedlock which resulted in her conversion to Catholicism.  In 1932, Day met Peter Maurin, who influenced her on Catholic Social teachings and the need to put them into action.  The duo started the Catholic Worker and opened the house of hospitality to the poor.  Day died on November 29, 1980 in New York City and is opened for canonization in the Catholic Church.

Martha Hennessy is continuing the legacy of her grandmother by welcoming and helping the poor in one of the house of hospitality.  Her talk was based on the need for peace, prayer, and of God.  Hennessy also touched on how war would bring about more conflicts, pain and sufferings to the lives of Syrians.  In fact, Pope Francis requested that Christians pray, fast and to do penance for world peace.

Prayers for Conversion

During this time of lent, I will be praying for those souls who have strayed away from the Lord. Here are a few prayers that I have found:

Fatima Prayers:

The Pardon Prayer: My God, I believe, I adore, I hope, and I love you. I ask Your pardon for those who do not believe, do not adore, do not hope, and do not love you.

The Sacrifice Prayer: Make sacrifices for sinners and say often, especially while making a sacrifice: O Jesus, this is for love of Thee, for the conversion of sinners, and in reparation for offenses committed against the Immaculate Heart of Mary.

The Decade Prayer: O my Jesus, forgive us our sins, save us from the fire of hell. Lead all souls to heaven, especially those who are most in need of Thy mercy.

Fatima Prayer: Most Holy Trinity- Father, Son and Holy Spirit – I adore Thee profoundly. I offer Thee the most precious Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity of Jesus Christ, present in all the tabernacles of the world, in reparation for the outrages, sacrileges and indifferences whereby He is offended. And through the infinite merits of His Most Sacred Heart and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, I beg of Thee the conversion of poor sinners.

Diary of St. Faustina:

When you say this prayer, with a contrite heart and with faith on behalf of some sinner, I will give him the grace of conversion. This is the prayer:

“O Blood and Water, which gushed forth from the Heart of Jesus as a fount of Mercy for us, I trust in You”

Jesus said to St. Faustina.

If you have any other prayers for the conversion of sinners, please share them by adding them to the comments below.

God bless,

My Daily Mornings

This is a routine that I do every morning before I go to work. I get ready and eat my breakfast. I read the Bible and the Catechism (only a chapter for each of the book). I do my daily prayers which consist of the Angelus and St. Michael. Here are my two daily morning prayers:

The Angelus

The Angel of the Lord declared to Mary:
And she conceived of the Holy Spirit.

Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee; blessed art thou among women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of
our death. Amen.

Behold the handmaid of the Lord: Be it done unto me according to Thy word.

Hail Mary . . .

And the Word was made Flesh: And dwelt among us.

Hail Mary . . .

Pray for us, O Holy Mother of God, that we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.
Let us pray:

Pour forth, we beseech Thee, O Lord, Thy grace into our hearts; that we, to whom the incarnation of Christ, Thy Son, was made known by the message of an angel, may by His Passion and Cross be brought to the glory of His Resurrection, through the same Christ Our Lord.

St. Michael the Archangel,
defend us in battle.
Be our defense against the wickedness and snares of the Devil.
May God rebuke him, we humbly pray,
and do thou,
O Prince of the heavenly hosts,
by the power of God,
thrust into hell Satan,
and all the evil spirits,
who prowl about the world
seeking the ruin of souls. Amen..

Pray to the Angels that they may guard and protect you throughout your day.
